A Guide to the Kwavi Language

The Kwavi language is ‘spoken’ by the residents of Eden II, most of whom are descendants of humans from Earth, hundreds of years ago.

Although the Kwavi are a mix of all people and tribes of Earth, their words are mostly slang and a derived from the Swahili and island dialects of on the coast of Zanzibar, the initial birthplace of the Kwavi people.

Khosi - leader, above all other khans; denotes ‘king’ or ‘chief’

Khan - boss, below a khosi

Da nada - no problem

Sante - Thank you

Kinai - loser

Khamila - beloved

Khaji - lover (male)

Kenzi - Lover (female)

Kebo - Beautiful

Tizo - Problem

Raha - Happiness

Kumba - Home

Kini - Believe

Kali - Expensive, Fierce

Kubwa - Large

Leo - Today

Kasirika - Angry

Kijana - Young man

Kezo - Wisdom, Ability

Fiki - Friend

Karibu - Welcome

Kubali - Accept

Kahawa - Coffee

Kwani - Because (conjunction)

Kulivu - Boring

Ko’sawa? - You OK?

Ni’sawa - I’m OK

Chai - Tea

Kugwe - Elder, Leader

Kitotos - Children, babies

Kapo - A martial arts and wrestling art

Maskini - Poor, ‘the poor’

Koko - A white drug, a powder similar to cocaine

Kuratina - Alcohol made by mixing rabi flour with whatever source of water is available, allowing it to ferment and is sometimes laced with koko and sugar.

Shida - Trouble

Ko wapi? - Where are they? Where is he, where is she?

Kupiga - fighting, wrestling

Kwani - Why

Kijana - boy

Kasichana - girl

Kisu - knife

Kalifu - criminal

Kaka - brother
